Imphal, October 12, 2013:
Kuki National Front (KNF) observed Martyrs Day, the 20th death anniversary of Nehlun Kipgen, founder president of the outfit at Phaijang village in Sadar Hills today.
Incumbent president of the outfit, ST Thangboi led a large number of people including KNF cadres and leaders in paying homage and floral tribute at the memorial stone erected at the site where the late leader was put to rest.
ST Thangboi while speaking at the occasion said that Nehlun Kipgen was a true leader who tried hard to bring self governance for the Kuki people.
Saying that Nehlun's dream was a Kuki homeland, Thangboi said every KNF cadre must follow the path of the late leader in order achieve his unfulfilled goal.
Nehlun Kipgen was born in 1956 as the third son of Jangkhomang Kipgen and Limkholhing Kipgen.
He started his campaign to set up a Kuki armed movement at the villages located along Indo-Myanmar border in 1986. The first raising day of KNF was celebrated at Molnoi village in Myanmar.
The event marked the proclamation of KNF's existance to Kuki chiefs, elders and people.
Nehlun died in the hands of security forces on October 12, 1993 at Motbung.
His body was put to rest at Phailang village after giving befitting tributes by Kuki leaders and cadres of KNF.
Among others, KNF general secretary Aaron, home secretary Jangboi and defence secretary Lala attended the observation.
