Reigning champions SSU, Singjamei maintained its unbeaten record in the 8th Manipur State League football tournament with a solitary goal victory over TRUGPU, Nambol while in another match held at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium today former champions NISA, Thangmeiband averted a major embarrassment by settling for a 2-2 draw with league debutantes ZFC, Churachandpur.
A Syed Farid pass ended with Y Sachidananda scoring the SSU match-winner in the 20th minute.
The Nambol side missed a chance to collect a point as Kh Netaji failed to convert a 69th minute penalty award, his attempt flying over the crosspiece.
The win is the fourth from six matches for SSU.
In the ZFC versus NISA clash, the Churachandpur side took the lead on Kh Naoton's 27th minute goal.
Even though NISA restored parity through an L Sanatomba penalty conversion in the 48th minute and Golmei Gaikhanningpu provided the lead in the 52nd, Helun Haokip the match ended with honours shared slamming home the ZFC equaliser in the 62nd minute.
