Lamka, October 12, 2013:
Claiming that there were numerous anomalies regarding the Government's proposed road expansion plan in between Kangvai and Churachandpur Police Station, the JAC against the eviction of land owners has petitioned the Chief Minister to review the plan in public interest.
A memo of the JAC addressed to the Chief Minister alleged that the plan which included the road stretch between Kangvai and Ccpur Police Station and not the most congested part of the district the main town, only defies logical explanation and cast confusion in the minds of the public.
It also claimed that acquiring 50 feet of land on both sides of the highway falls short of interest of the general public considering the number of families to be displaced.
Over 2000 families, some of whom have settled even before the country attained Independence would be uprooted, highlighted the JAC missive.
Besides, the JAC questioning the intention behind acquiring such large chunk of land in a State where a 100 feet wide road is still not seen even in the state capital, argued that the State Government has never fully utilised the existing 30feet or so highway and hardly bothers to maintain it.
They also accused the Government of hugely devaluating the land value when compared to other districts in the state.
The JAC in its representation rather proposed that renovation of the existing highway be done by acquiring 25 ft of land on both sides from the middle of the road with proper lane indicator and footpath for all roads and highway.
It further suggested that a district ring road which may specifically be used for transportation of heavy vehicles and goods may be taken up as it also helps in preserving the quality of the highways and saves the State from enormous expenses on road maintenance.
