Tamenglong, July 11 2012:
The United Naga Council, UNC through its publicity wing announced 96 hours total bandh in Naga areas from the midnight of 23 July to midnight of 27 July 2012 to protest against alleged lack of sincerity on the part of the Government of India (GoI) and Government of Manipur (GoM) in taking forward the democratic process of dialogue on the demand for an alternative arrangement for the Nagas in Manipur outside the Government of Manipur.
The proposed total bandh would be covering railway construction, oil exploration and any other central project works taken up in Naga areas.
However, the medical services, fire-brigade, media, power and telecommunication departments will be exempted from the purview of the total bandh, UNC said, while warning that anybody violating the total bandh should be ready to face with the consequences at their own risk.
The demand for an alternative arrangement is for immediate intervention, pending settlement of the Indo-Naga issue.
Even after lapse of 3 weeks of having publicly registered the protest, no initiative has been taken up for pursuing the dialogue process to its logical end, UNC lamented.
Earlier UNC had imposed 48 hours total bandh in Naga areas from the midnight of 16th June, 2012 to the midnight of 18th June, 2012 .
