Imphal, May 04, 2013:
While condemning the incident of burning down 36 houses in Silent village of Senapati district by a mob from neighbouring Seijang village yesterday, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the portfolio of Home, has appealed to the general public to refrain from indulgin in anything that might lead to communal violence.
Addressing media persons at his office chamber in Secretariat here today, Gaikhangam stated that the incident of burning down 36 houses was very unfortunate and the Government shared the sorrows of the affected villagers and would see that no such incidents are repeated in future.
While informing that immediate relief materials have been provided to the affected villagers, Gaikhangam said that some of the individuals involved in the incident have already been arrested.
"If they were found guilty, then they will be given befitting punishment in accordance to the laws of the land", he assured.
Gaikhangam also appealed to the people to remain alert against those who are trying to disturb the communal harmony among the people.
He contended that it is because of the failure on the part of the concerned authority to demarcate the actual boundary of a village or a locality that such issues often erupt in places adjoining the hills and the plains.
MLA Preshow Shimray, who was also present during the press conference, also appealed to the people not to commit such crimes in future and termed the incident of arson at Silent village as case of timidity.
