FEGOCTA mulls stir over UGC pay issue

Federation of Government College Teachers' Association (FEGOCTA) has warned that teachers of government colleges including DM University might be compelled to boycott online classes and examinations if government fails to issue the order regarding implementation of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 within June 30 .
According to a FEGOCTA statement, college teachers are conducting online classes for students and preparing for examinations amidst COVID-19 pandemic from home.
Teachers are working three to eight hours daily and FEGOCTA resolved to continue the same.
Note for online lectures for BA/BSc 6th,4th,2nd semesters are available on FEGOCTA website www.fegocta.org and YouTube, the statement said.
Appealing to state government to issue order effecting implementation of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 within June 30, the FEGOCTA statement informed that decision to boycott online classes and examinations, in case the government continues to ignore its demand, was arrived at during an online executive meeting of FEGOCTA held on June 20 .
Consequences after boycott of online classes and examinations will have to be borne by higher education department, it contended.
While stating that education minister, chief Secretary, secretary to CM and commissioner (higher education) have been intimated about FEGOCTA's decision on June 21 in writing, the statement charged the government of dishonouring the MoU signed on March 6 with higher education department, cabinet approval on March 27 and statements made by CM and education minister on the floor of Manipur Legislative Assembly on February 9, 2021.As per the MoU and cabinet approval, cash payment for 7th UGC pay should start from July, 2021, the statement pointed out.
