Imphal, June 22 2021:
National People's Party (NPP) has begun executing its plans for the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections, in addition to recruiting promising candidates and assigning them key roles for the same.
On Tuesday, intending candidate from Kshetrigao AC, Sheikh Nurul Hassan joined NPP and was appointed as the party's general secretary (organisation) by NPP Manipur president N Kayisii in an order issued the same day.
The newly appointed general secretary (organisation) had already met with NPP national president Conrad Sangma in Guwahati on June 10, following which he was appointed to the post on Tuesday.
During the meet-and-greet, Conrad instructed Nurul to work to produce other candidates for the upcoming polls and also ensure the party's victory in the same.
The national president further said that the NDA government would continue to be in power after the next parliamentary elections, which in turn would also mean that NEDA (a political forum working alongside NPP) will continue to stay and NPP will remain one of its constituent members.
Appreciating Conrad Sangma for appointing him to the post, Nurul Hassan pledged to put forward the voices/opinions of the people of Manipur and the northeastern states and also work to safeguard the rights of the indigenous people.
On the other hand, a key member of the party conveyed to The People's Chronicle that NPP will be fielding candidates in around 20-25 assembly constituencies for the upcoming pools.
As NPP played a key role in the formation of the current BJP-led coalition government in the state, efforts are being made to strengthen the party and also to play a key role in the upcoming polls.
The party is currently planning to bring in promising intending candidates in various constituencies, the member conveyed, while informing that several ex-MLAs, who are uneasy with the Congress, are also in line to join NPP.
