Imphal, August 07, 2013:
Laipham Khunou Apunba Nupi Lup (LANLUP) has clarified that nothing is communal with its campaign to protect agriculture land at Laipham Khunou and adjoining areas.
In a press conference held at Laipham Khunou Maning Leikai, LANLUP spokesperson Dr Ibeyaima said, the primary objective of the organisation is to protect agriculture land.
Saying that a vast area of paddy field located to the south and west of Laipham Khunou has already been changed into residential area, she said, in the light of this constant losing of agriculture land, a public meeting held on December 11, 2010 resolved to protect the paddy fields located to the north of the village exclusively for agriculture purpose.
After the meeting, she said, respective land owners were informed not to construct residential houses at the area.
Laipham Khunou Youth Development Association and Young Union Club, Kairang also organised public meetings to take similar resolution with LANLUP.
On August 4 last, people of Laipham Khunou and neighbouring villages found some people started construction of houses at the prohibited area, Dr Ibeyaima said.
Peeved with the conduct of these people, some womenfolk scattered the sand which was kept for the construction of the house.
Saying that the wish of the people is to protect agriculture land, Dr Ibeyaima requested the Government to bring an amicable solution to the standoff.
