Thoubal, March 31 2019:
Culprits involved in the custodial death of Md Manjur Ahemad must be tried under 302 Act, said Md Raees Ahamed, Co-convenor, JAC Against the Custodial killing of SM Manjur Ahamed.
A sit-in protest, organized by JAC Against the Custodial Killing of Md Manjur Ahamed, was staged at the main gate of Yairipok Azad Hr Sec School today, in protest against the death of Md Manjur Ahemad in police custody, who was pulled up for interrogation by the police yesterday in connection with the escape of Th Nando, leader of one of KCP group, from the JNIMS security ward.
Speaking on the sideline of the protest demonstration, Md Raees Ahamed expressed concern regarding the prevailing situation of lawlessness in the State adding that death of a police personnel in police custody while interrogating in connectio n with the escape of a militant is very distressing which reflects the tyranny of police interrogation.
The cause of death has also raised many eyebrows as the act might have been carried out to conceal the truth behind the escape, he alleged.
As such, JAC demanded that the investigation of the custodial death of Md Manjur Ahamed must be handed over to independent agency like CBI or NIA, asserted Md Raees Ahamed and maintained that JAC will not negotiate with any authority until their demands are met.
He further said that JAC is all set to launch various democratic forms of agitation to meet their demands.
Speaking to the media persons, Sajida (younger sister of the deceased) said that she was serving breakfast to her brother when one o f the police personnel took him inside for interrogation and was reported death after some time stating that he died while undergoing interrogation.
The police personnel then handed over the lifeless body of her brother, she lamented.
She alleged that the brutality of the police took t h e life of her brother.
Placards which read as "Police custody is not a licence killing field", "Punish the culprit with befitting punishment", "Stop selective killing", "Book the culprits involved in the killing", "We demand speedy justice for Md Manjur Ahemad" were used during the protest demonstration.
