Imphal, March 31 2019:
Kongba Maru Laiphamlel Apunba Semgat Lup has appealed to the State Government to preserve and protect the sacred places of the Meitei community at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Longjam Ratankumar president of HERICOUN and member of Kongba Maru Laiphamlel Apunba Semgat Lup, appealed the State Government to take up necessary measures to protect the sacred places of the Meiteis located in different parts of the State as well as the ancient monuments which are related to the history of the State.
It is very unfortunate that some months back there were some reports about the destruction of Koubru Laiphamlen and Thangjing Laiphamlen by some unknown miscreants, he said, further condemning the felling of trees at Kongba Maru Laiphamlel area and appealed to the authority concerned to look into the matter seriously.
He alleged that the Historical Monuments Act is now just for namesake in the State as the authority concerned has failed to protect the ancient monuments under the Act and urged State Art and Culture Department and State Archive to take the matter seriously.
He also appealed to every section of the society staying near the sacred places to protect and preserve the said historical places.
