As part of the preparations for the ensuing Lok Sabha election and as a step to properly enforce the Model Code of Conduct, the Excise Department, Manipur disposed/destroyed a large quantity of confiscated items, including IMFL at Excise Headquarters located at Lamphelpat, Imphal West today.
The seized items which were destroyed under Section 69 of Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act, 1991, included 1108.42 litres of IMFL, 248.80 litres of beer and 4116 litres of country liquor/local liquor.
The destroyed items was worth around Rs 11,51,292 in total.
The items were destroyed in the presence of CEO, State Nodal Expenditure, Superintendent of Excise and Deputy Superintendent of Excise.
Briefing media persons on the spot, Deputy Superintendent of Excise Th Imo conveyed that the Department has taken up stringent measures to seize liquor of all types from different parts of the State following the announcement of the Election Model Code of Conduct for the coming Lok Sabha Election.
He further maintained that the Excise Department has been monitoring production, storage and distribution, by conducting frequent raids and checks for liquor and other substances at vulnerable areas to curb the menace of liquor usage in the State.
Imo went on to claim that the Excise Department has so far seized 2622.890 litres of IMFL, 850.165 litres of beer and 5461.875 litres of country/local liquor having a total value of Rs 23,74,965 .
The total number of raids conducted till date is 425 while the number of cases detected and number of persons arrested are 325 each, Imo said adding that a total amount of Rs 4,09,950 have been imposed as fine as well so far.
