Imphal, March 31 2019:
Chief Minister N Biren has claimed that he was the one who shouted for a change of leadership and Government in the State at a time when Congress party was ruling the State for 15 consecutive years.
"Unable to bear the atrocities committed by the Congress Government upon the people of the State during their 15 years rule, I shouted to change the 'driver' else Manipur would crash," he added.
He was speaking at an election rally held today at Sagolband Moirang Leirak Machin under the aegis of Sagolband BJP Mandal.
Manipuri society lived under an all-pervasive shadow of fear and anxiety when Congress ruled the State for 15 years and people did not feel safe to even move around as if they had lost all their freedom, Biren said.
He went on to claim that the all-pervasive shadow of fear disappeared soon after the BJP-led Government was formed.
One primary responsibility of elected representatives is to ensure peace and harmony in society and welfare of the masses and this is the true essence of governance.
A large number of people who could not afford treatment of several health problems due to poverty are now provided medical assistance of Rs five lakh under the Prime Minister's Ayushman Bharat scheme and another Rs two lakh under CMHT and this is called 'Government', Biren asserted.
Asking what the Congress party did for the welfare of people when they ruled the State for 15 years, Biren asserted that the previous Congress Government was contract works-oriented.
The Go to Hills campaign has succeeded in restoring harmony and in strengthening the fraternal bond shared between hill people and plain people.
Now people can see a united picture of Manipur, Biren claimed.
As long as there is a BJP Government in the State, the State's territorial integrity, identity, language and culture will be protected, come what may, he said.
Saying that Narendra Modi will come back as the country's Prime Minister for the second term, Biren appealed to all the people of the State to send two BJP MPs to the Parliament.
Dr RK Ranjan, BJP State unit president K Bhabananda, Works Minister Th Biswajit and MLA S Rajen too spoke at the gathering.
