Imphal, July 26, 2012:
In yet another case of fraudulence and manipulation of rules, NREGS wages have been withdrawn in the name of a PWD Assistant Engineer without any knowledge of the engineer.
This was disclosed to TSE by the AE himself who is currently posted in PWD Churachandpur division.
AE N Khadrakpa said that he was listed among the job-card holders and NREGS workers of Kha-Thinungei Gram Panchayat Ward No 8/ 4/3. Recently some people obtained a list of the NREGS job-card holders of the ward from the BDO concerned and it was found that he was listed against job-card number 109 and account number 844. Neither Khadrakpa nor any of his family members ever worked for NREGS.
Moreover, he and his family have shifted to Ghari since many years back.
Disclosing that he had not yet seen his NREGS job-card and bank passbook, Khadrakpa speculated that someone may be drawing wages against his name all these days.
It was not only Khadrakpa, but some other Government employees also found their names in the list.
In addition, the job-card holders' list of ward included names of five expired people and four other who no longer reside in the ward.
The AE also raised strong suspicion over some group of people operating in clandestine manner and enjoying NREGS wages by using names of other people.
