Imphal, September 19 2011:
City police personnel foiled the attempt of the volunteers of AMSU who were trying to close down all shops and establishment in and around Imphal area who were selling goods at a much higher price than the normal rate which was prevalent before the economic blockade.
Volunteers of AMSU along with a team of media persons went for an inspection of the price of essential commodities sold at different shops in Thangal Bazar area today.
During the inspection, the team found some shops selling goods at a price fixed by a Bazar Board Committee while others were selling at the price of their choice.
In both the cases the rate was found to be much higher than the price at which the goods were sold before the economic blockade.

The AMSU volunteers told the shopkeepers to shut down their shops if they cannot sell the goods at the rate at which the goods were sold before the economic blockade.
As two of the shops in Thangal bazaar were shutting down, a team of City police personnel came to the scene and stopped the volunteers from further closing the shops.
They were then taken to the City Police station for further interrogation.
However, almost all shops in Thangal bazaar area voluntarily shut down their shops stating that they cannot sell the goods at the price prevalent before the economic blockade.
It was only after the shopkeepers were persuaded by the police personnel assuring that the AMSU volunteers will be barred from entering the area, that the shops were opened again.
Speaking to reporters, Anil, Publicity and Information Secretary, AMSU said that AMSU will continue its drive until the government fixes the rate of all essential commodities.
All shops which cannot sell the goods at the price before the economic blockade should close their shops.
He further appealed to all educational institutions, meira paibi organizations and other CSOs to stage sit in protest against price rice tomorrow.
