The All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU), Tamenglong Zone said Monday, on behalf of the public of all Manipur hill district contract basis teachers under ZEO, it has submitted a memorandum to the state Education Minister regarding the issue of re-engagement service extension of contract basis teachers.
AMTU said the state Education Department has failed to issue either termination order or re-engagement order for all the contract basis teachers under ZEO who started working between May 2006 and December 2008. It has been learnt that physical verification process for these teachers was held in 2006 for re-engagement in the hill schools and also in the due process, altogether 772 teachers were appointed on contract basis and verified as genuine, the memorandum signed by AMTU Chief Co-ordinator Canaan Panmei said.
Saying that majority of the schools in Tamenglong district are under the Directorate of Education (S), Manipur, the memorandum submitted to the state Education Minister also said some of the schools in the district are in the state of closing down due to shortage of teachers and other infrastructures.
It also drew the attention of the minister over the issue and said the union has already requested the concerned department to look into the matter in the public interest.
