Governor releases book

Governor VK Duggal today released the Manipuri translation of Tamil classic, 'Tirukkural' during a solemn function held at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan here.
The Tamil classic book on morals and ethics, 'Tirukkural' is rendered into Manipuri by Soibam Rebika Devi, a scholar who is presently working in the Central Institute of Indian Languages while the release function was organised by the Central Institute of Classical Tamil.
Speaking at the occasion, Governor VK Duggal lauded the efforts of the translator and the CICT in translating the 2000 years old classic into Manipuri language.
He expressed his desire to avail the book in the shelves of the libraries across the State.
CICT is an autonomous institute under HRD Ministry credited to have published 26 works and conducted more than 500 academic programmes.
Tirukkural, one of the master piece of Tamil literary works has been translated into more than 50 Indian and foreign languages.
The Punjabi translation of the book which preceded the Manipuri translation was released in 2013 .
Among others, the release function was graced by Dr RK Nimai Singh, Secretary to Governor and Commissioner (Art and Culture); N Ashok Kumar, Secretary to Chief Minister; the translator Soibam Rebika Devi and VG Bhooma, Director, CICT, Chennai.
