Imphal, January 12 2021:
In continuation of the series of protest initiated by CADA (Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol), a sit-in demanding the State Government to appeal 'drug haul case of 2018' to a higher Court was staged at Pangaltabi Chingkha in Kakching district today under the aegis of CADA Kakching unit and Pangaltabi Chingkha Meira Paibi.
Speaking to media persons during the protest, president of CADA Kakching District Committee Sorokhaibam Nena said that the calls for re-investigation of the case from various sections are very reasonable.
The ND&PS Court in the judgement of the case also hinted State's Public Prosecutor to go for appeal to higher Court, she said while adding the voice raise on the matter by various organisations seeking retrial of the case is not illegal.
The ever rising indulgence to intoxicants implies that these substances are plentily available, she said with concern.
She also urged the State Government to formulate more appropriate legislation to fight the drug menace in the State and make sure that drug peddlers and kingpins are awarded befitting punishment.
Slogans including 'do not demean war on drugs', 'award befitting punishments to drug smugglers' etc were raised at the end of the sit-in.
