187th Birth Anniversary of Maharaj Gambhir Singh held

The 187th Birth Anniversary of Maharaj Gambhir Singh and remembrance of 'Seven Years Devastation' was held at Manipuri Basti in Bokajan, Assam.
The programme was jointly organised by Karbi Anglong Manipuri Cultural Association, All Assam Manipuri Students Union, Karbi Anglong District Committee, Meira Paibi Lup of Bokajan and ULESCO.
It was attended by Dr Numal Momin, MLA 17 Bokajan AC; Chandra Kumar Singh, president KAMCA district committee; Dr Kh Dhiren, Professor Manipur University; YK Dhiren, Convenor JCILPS; Ng Deva, Secretary UCM; Sharat Thangjam, president Dimapur Meitei Council; Birendra Salam, vice chairman Film Forum and Sharatchandra Thingujam, Principal Immanuel College.
The programme was inaugurated with traditional song and floral tributes to the portrait of Maharaj Gambhir Singh and Nara Singh.
As a part of the programme 'Manao Ebungo Meidingu Chingthanglen Pamheiba Maharaj Nara Singh Khonga' and 'Meidingu Chinglen Nongdrenkhomba Maharaj Gambhir Singh Khonga' awards were presented to Joy Moirangthemba of Hojai and Khundrakpam Jayanta Kumar from Amarajan respectively.
Dr Numal Momin said he was very elated to be able to attend a programme related to Manipuri society and remembrance programme for 'Seven Years Devastation' will keep the people informed of the history of Manipur.
He added that the Assam Government was working selflessly for the welfare of the Manipuri community in Assam.
Various speakers including Dr Kh Dhiren, YK Dhiren and Ng Deva reiterated the contribution of Maharaj Gambhir Singha and Maharaj Nara Singh in repelling the Burmese invaders during the 'Seven Years Devastation' and also added the importance of uniting the Manipuri communities spread throughout the world.
They also said such programmes will be key in bringing about a cultural integration amongst the community.
