Thoubal, January 12 2021:
To check adulteration of spices, the Food Safety Administration, Thoubal conducted drives at the market places in Thoubal district.
The food safety drives led by Dr Moirangthem Dinesh Singh (FSO) and Athokpam Brojendro Singh (FSO) under the supervision of N Debendro Singh (Designated Officer) covered Yairipok Bazar, Thoubal Bazar, Wangjing Bazar and Khongjom Bazar, said a statement of the Food Safety Administration Thoubal.
The officials collected samples of spices for lab tests.
During the drive, the food business operators were instructed not to sell grounded/powdered spices in loose form as grounded/powdered spices can only be sold in packed condition as per Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions On Sales) Regulations, 2011 .
Awareness was also given to the consumers about adulteration of spices.
The Food Safety Officers encouraged the consumers to purchase whole spices, as the chances of adulteration in the whole spices are generally lower.
Further, the consumers were asked always to check for FSSAI licence number on the packaged label, always read the manufacturing date, manufacturer's details, best before date and other labelling and declarations before buying spices.
People should never buy spices if the package is damaged, said officials.
