CBI files FIR

CBI Anti Corruption Bureau, Imphal, has registered an FIR against one Oinam Mahananda, then driver of Customs Division, Imphal, who is currently posted at Customs Preventive Force, Champhai (Mizoram) under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The FIR was registered by CBI (ACB) Imphal on September 4 on the basis of information gathered from reliable sources alleging possession of assets which are disproportionate to his known income.
According to the FIR, Mahananda joined service as a driver at Customs Division Imphal in September of 2004 and he was transferred to Mizoram on March 21, 2016 .
It alleged that he acquired huge assets, both movable and immovable, amounting to around Rs 95,92,718 during the period from September 2004 to May this year and prior before joining service, he was not having any assets in his name.
The FIR continued that the income of Oinam Mahananda and his family members form all known source of income including monthly salaries etc, amount to Rs 65, 06,508 from period from his joining till today.
It was further alleged that the expenditure both verifiable and non verifiable and kitchen expenses etc incurred by the accused and his family members amount to Rs 16, 88,863 during the said period.
Hence, assets disproportionate to all known sources of income of the accused comes to around Rs 47,75, 046, the FIR mentioned adding that beside the said assets, the percentage of disproportionate assets will increase after taking into consideration the huge expenditure incurred by the accused regarding his children who are studying outside the State in private institutes as well as taking into account other luxurious household items including ornaments.
