PM Advisory Council visits FEEDS, Hengbung

Kangpokpi, October 05 2018: Foundation for Environment and Economic Development Services (FEEDS), Hengbung successfully rolled out the red carpet for the Member Secretary, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), GoI, Ratan P Watal yesterday afternoon.

The non-profit, non-political and voluntary organization welcomed the delegates to discuss about bringing Krishi Vigyan Kendra in the hill regions of the State.

The maiden visit of the Member Secretary, EAC-PM was accompanied by K Rajeshwara Rao, Advisor, Economic Advisory to the Prime Minister of India.

The visiting Member Secretary and Advisor stayed the night at FEEDS Hengbung yesterday and left for New Delhi this morning.

FEEDS Hengbung was established in 1988 by former Manipur Minister Haokholet Kipgen.

Ever since its inception, FEEDS has been functioning effectively in the field of environment, economy and natural resource management at different parts of the district and immensely contributed to the State apart from being a frontrunner among voluntary organizations.

Apart from initiating the work to bring KVK into the hill regions, FEEDS Hengbung is the first in India to grow Emu in cold regions, first in introducing Emu to the North East, first in the district to come forward with Turkey Farm and first in the State to set up an Orchid Research & Development Centre (ORDC), to introduce kiwi fruit plantation, to set in large cardamom cultivation and to offer 100 ha of land for social forestry.

It has entered into a scientific & technical cooperation, in the implementation of projects related to forestry research & education through creation of a demonstration village, with the Rain Forest Research Institute, Jorhat, Assam of Indian Council of Forestry Research & Education (ICFRE).

It also introduced Ethno Medicinal Research Centre (EMRC), Van Vigyan Kendra (WK) and received the Recognition of Scientific & Industrial Research Organization, DSIR.

During the maiden visit, the retired IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh had a fruitful interaction with Scientists and staff of EMRC, ORDC, National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS), Sylvan Botanical Garden (SBG) & KVK within the FEEDS campus.

The former Finance Secretary emphasized on the role of Apiculture to increase agricultural productivity, the per capita income of the country etc.

He visited the EMRC, ORDC and the SBG within the FEEDS campus and appreciated the R & D activities taken up in the field of Phytomedicine, Biodiversity conservation, Orchidology and production of commercially viable orchid hybrids etc.
