One Md Wazid (24) s/o Mangi Khan of Kiyamgei Awang Leikai was remanded to 6 days police custody by Special Court POCSO Imphal West in connection with a sexual assault case of a minor, today.
A team of Wangoi police produced Md Wazid before the JMIC Imphal West I (in charge of Special Court POCSO Imphal West) along with a prayer for remanding him to 6 days in police custody.
The IO submitted that on June 17, the elder brother of the victim (a minor) lodged a complaint to Wangoi PS claiming that on May 22, at around 5 pm, his younger sister was kidnapped by the accused who kept her concealed at his residence for a period of 24 days.
Later it also came to light that the victim had been sexually assaulted by the accused many times during the said period.
The accused was arrested yesterday and on preliminary interrogation, he admitted to the charges levelled against him and as such, the IO prayed for remanding him to six days in police custody, which the Court granted and hence, Md Wazid was remanded till June 26.On the other hand, another Sabir Ahamat (22) s/o Inao of Yairipok Phouden Mang Leirak was also remanded to 6 days in judicial custody by Special Court POCSO Imphal East today in connection with a similar incident.
Imphal East women police produced the accused before Court after the completion of his three days police remand and during the hearing, the IO submitted that a complaint was lodged by the father of the minor victim claiming that on June 16, his daughter was kidnapped by the accused to be his wife when she went out buy some cooking items.
The IO also explained that the examination of the victim cannot be completed as she is undergoing treatment in a private hospital after she consumed insecticide.
The IO continued that the accused was arrested from JNIMS on June 18 and during preliminary interrogation he claimed that he had also consumed insecticide and was hospitalized.
On further interrogation he admitted that he had sexually assaulted the victim on June 17 at his house and also disclosed that he had attempted to commit suicide by consuming insecticide and had also let the minor victim consume the leftover insecticide, which the IO pointed out amounts to attempt to murder.
The Court went through the case records and heard both sides before remanding the accused into judicial custody till July 5 .
