Imphal, June 21 2019:
Federation of All Tribal Youth Club, Manipur (FATYCM) has alleged that a huge amount of funds for the construction of roads under Thoubal Multipurpose Project, Division II, have been withdrawn without any work to show for it.
The organization has also demanded the State Government to take up befitting action against whoever are involved in the act at the earliest, failing which it warned that it will approach the Central Government and the competent Court to seek appropriate action.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, FATYCM president R Asing claimed that the incident came to light when the organization enquired the developmental works executed by IFCD, Manipur under Thoubal Multipurpose Project, Division II.
Further claiming that the said work fund had been awarded as a part of the rehabilitation package sanctioned by the Central Government for the welfare of the villagers affected by Thoubal Multipurpose Project, the president went on to inform that maximum amount of the fund meant for construction of the road, was apparently withdrawn by the Department concerned in collusion with contractors during the enforcement of Election Model Code of Conduct, during the month of March and April.
Explaining that Right Side High Level Road from Ramrei Village via Chadong West under Thoubal Multipurpose Project, Division Number II has to be constructed as part of the rehabilitation package, he informed that FATYCM volunteers visited the site where the said road is supposed to be constructed.
However, the volunteers only found some piles of pebbles at the road side but no construction work, including WBM, had been executed till date.
FATYCM then enquired on the developmental works executed by IFCD, Manipur under Thoubal Multipurpose Project, Division II only to come to know that almost all the money for the said work had already been withdrawn by the Department concerned in connivance with some contractors, he added.
While stating that withdrawing money meant for construction of public road without actually executing works amounts to misusing public fund, Asing urged the State Government to take up appropriate action against those involved in the act.
He also warned the State Government that FATYCM will approach the Central Government and the competent Court to seek action against the wrongdoers if the State Government fails to take up befitting action against those involved in the withdrawal of money.
