1,500 saplings planted at Poiroutongba hill

Led by Chief Conservator of Forest (CCF) Mohendra Pratab, mass-scale plantation of tree saplings was held today at Poiroutongba Hill in Waithou, Thoubal District.
About 1,500 saplings were planted during the drive.
An awareness programme on environment degradation was also held as part of the day.
The mass tree saplings plantation and awareness programme was organized by Thoubal Forest Division in connection with Van Mahotsav 2019 event which was attended by DFO, Thoubal Forest Division, Debala Laiphrakpam; Conservator of Forest, Central Circle, L Joykumar Singh; Range Officer, Thoubal Range, S Samungou Singh, other Officers and members of WBCC and Ningsing Lup.
Speaking to the media persons, CCF Mahendra Pratab said that today's programme was held in line with Forest Department's year long programme "Green Mission, Green Manipur" adding that the tree saplings were planted in and around Poiroutongba hill to make it more green with the support of public.
"To preserve the environment, collective effort is required both from the public and the stakeholders to increase greenery area in Manipur", said Mohendra Pratab.
He continued that there is tectonic shift in climatic condition of Manipur in the last few years due to unchecked mass cutting and felling of trees and it is high time we acknowledge the devastating impact of global warming in the region.
He also appreciated the support and cooperation extended by the various clubs, organization and public to make the event a success.
The tree plantation programme was also attended by JFMC members of LembaKhul, Waithou Chiru, Phunal Maring, Poiroutongba, Lishamlok, Tentha and members of various clubs and organizations of Samal Tangkhul, Thoubal Khunou and Thiyam Konjil.
