Imphal, October 14 2021:
Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL) has stated that the time is ripe for the society to understand and discuss the impacts of inaccurate representation of one's culture, tradition and other ritualistic performances.
In a press release UKAL stated that these instances of inaccurate representation, be it in the form of a man wearing the woman's attire of a certain ethnic group or other such bungles that depict a lack of adherence to a group's culture or tradition, have become increasingly common.
UKAL have raised the suspicion whether certain antisocial elements are responsible for this eyesore.
The culture, traditions, rituals and religious style of each ethnic group are of extreme importance and in certain cases, revered by the people that belong to those communities.
To wrongly represent their traditional garb, folk dances or to introduce elements that weren't present in the original, could probably not only hurt the sentiments of these people but also cause an uproar that might bring unwanted results, the statement added.
As such, UKAL has requested to refrain from indulging in any such activity that might wrongly depict a group's culture and hurt the sentiments of the people, the press release stated.
