Free eye camps mark World Sight Day observance

In connection with observance of World Sight Day, a free eye checkup camp was held at Shija Eye Care Foundation, Health Village Langol on Thursday.
The camp was organised by Lions Club of Imphal Leimarol (The International Association of Lions Clubs Dist: 322D) in collaboration with Shija Foundation under Global Causes: Vision 21 .
In a release, business development manager Premjit Lourembam informed that altogether 77 patients were examined for eye related problems.
Doctor along with other support staff of Shija Eye Care Foundation examined the patients and 17 cataracts and 1 pterygium cases were diagnosed during the camp.
Those patients detected with eye related problems will be treated under NPCB (NHM)/CMHT/PMJAY Scheme, the release further said.
A free eye screening camp was also conducted at Laipham Khunou Mayai Leikai multipurpose hall, in Imphal East district.
The camp was organised jointly by Lions Clubs of Imphal, Imphal North, Imphal Valley and Imphal Northern Hemisphere under the "Vision Awareness Programme" of Lions Clubs International in association with Laipham Khunou Youth Development Association.
In a release, Lions Club of Imphal informed that eyes of 90 persons from the nearby areas were checked by Dr L Chaoba Singh at the camp during which Vice-district governor-I Dr W Gopimohan delivered an awareness lecture and stressed the need to give proper rest to eyes after prolonged reading, computer usage, etc.
Meanwhile, Loktak and Khoupum Battalions of IGAR (S) organised lectures to raise awareness on World Sight Day at various locations of Churachandpur, Bishnupur and Noney districts Thursday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), the lecture was organised to spread awareness about various eye diseases such as blindness, astigmatism, cataract, glaucoma, etc, amongst the local populace.
The lecture also covered various kinds of eye infections particularly in the present Covid-19 scenario including various preventive measures of eye care and eye exercises, it added.
