Imphal, September 02 2016:
The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM), has submitted a representation to the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly appealing him to act promptly on the principle agreements of the official discourse between ATSUM and the Government of Manipur on June 16 pertaining to the filling up of all ST back log posts in the Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat.
ATSUM, in the representation said as per the provisions laid down by the Indian Constitution for equal opportunity of all citizens in matters relating to employment or appointment to any office under the State (Article 16), the union has been persistently approaching the Government of Manipur to fill up all the posts which are due for Scheduled Tribes in the Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat since many years.
As such, a number of sittings between ATSUM and the Government of Manipur had been held, wherein, agreements were reached several times for filling of the backlog posts.
In the recent official discourse held on June 16 at CM's Conference Hall, the Chief Minister, in the presence of all Cabinet Ministers, had asked the officials of Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat to fulfil the long pending demand of ATSUM.
The Chief Minister had also instructed the officials to nominate one tribal officer in the selection/recruitment board to oversee that ST are not left out in the recruitment.
Subsequently, the Government in its Cabinet meeting of June 21, created 125 posts of various grades for filling up the ST backlog posts.
However, Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat officials have deliberately protracted filling up the backlog posts thereby elevating the grievances of the tribal populace, it said.
It further appealed to the Speaker to translate the agreements into action at the earliest time.
