Jiri(Imp East), September 02 2016:
The All Manipur Students' Union, District Committee, Jiribam has informed the respective school authority and teachers to fix the payment of the Teachers' Day observance at Rs 10/20 for lower class students and Rs 50 for higher class students.
In a statement, AMSU, Jiribam District Committee stated that most of the schools these days have failed to celebrate the Teachers' Day meaningfully.
It has become a trend to collect money from students without realising the financial condition of the family.
Senior students along with some teachers have also introduced a practice where they would block vehicles along the roads and demand money for celebrating Teachers' Day, the statement said.
The statement questioned if students would excel academically if they throw a lavish food party for the teachers or give them expensive gifts.
In order to understand the true meaning of Teachers' Day, respective school authority and teachers should take the initiative and set an example to students so that the day is observed with honour and simplicity.
Students of lower classes should be charged Rs 10/20 and Rs 50 on students of higher classes.
In case the payments exceeding the said amount have been already made, remaining amount should be refunded by the respective school authority.
If any school is found to have violated the given instruction, befitting action will be taken up against the school authority, AMSU, District Committee, Jiribam.
