Kangpokpi, November 21 2018:
The Kuki Inpi, Manipur (KIM has expressed concern over the stand of the United Naga Council (UNC) while strongly endorsing the stand of the Aimol Tribe Union (ATU) .
Information and publicity wing of KIM said that it is concerned with the statement of the UNC on November 11 that the Aimols have come under them.
It added that the policy of taking the Old Kuki tribes, especially from Chandel area, under the UNC is the main reason that has disturbed the otherwise peaceful Kuki region.
It continued that the KIM strongly condemns the UNC's agenda of Naganization of smaller tribes in Manipur, which is a threat not only to the identity of the tribes concerned but also the reputation of UNC which now resembles a conglomeration of any ABC tribe.
The ATU Manipur's stand in outrightly rejecting their inclusion in the UNC is highly appreciable and the KIM strongly endorses the aspiration of the erstwhile Old Kuki Tribes in general and the Aimol Tribe in particular to rightfully have their own culture and identity, it added.
KIM also advised the UNC to respect the unique and distinct culture and identity of all the tribes and quit their design of assimilating smaller tribes once and for all while adding that unfounded pronouncements with malicious intent and ulterior motives can disturb communal harmony and peace in the State, for which the UNC should only be held responsible.
