Imphal, March 21 2012:
Peeved about non-payment of revised pay which was implemented since April 2009 and annual increment which came into force since April 2010, around 278 peripheral staff of Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS) has launched an indefinite cease-work strike from today.
MACS peripheral staff are engaged in many kinds of field works in addition to the task of administering ART drugs to people living with HIV/AIDS.
As the peripheral staff have launched cease-work strike, it is most likely that many centres of MACS would be paralysed.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, some of the aggrieved staff said that NACO has already released requisite fund for implementation of revised pay as well as the annual increment, and the same has been implemented in all other States.
It is only Manipur where the revised pay and the annual increment have not been implemented yet.
When NACO officials questioned MACS officials as to why the revised pay and the annual increment have not been given to the peripheral staff till date, the latter replied in a very obscure and indirect manner.
A memorandum was submitted to the MACS Project Director on March 5 to implement revised pay and the annual increment but there was no response.
Such arrogance of the authority compelled the peripheral staff to go into indefinite cease-work strike, they explained.
