SFs strike it rich with arrest of 11 UGs, 5 foreigners

Imphal, April 14 2012: Security forces have arrested eleven underground cadres including two who were involved in a blast at the Gate of present Thangmeiband AC MLA Th Joykishan during the run up to election to the 10th Legislative Assembly, since the past few days from different places.

On April 11, a team of Imphal East commandos arrested two PREPAK (Pro) cadres from a place near Kusum Oil Pump, Nongmeibung, according to an IE SP statement.

They were identified as Khumukcham Nimai (35) son of (L) Kh Ibohal of Kakching Khunou Awang Leikai and Oinam (O) Inaobi Chanu (37), wife of O Megha of Thanga Karang.

Threee Chinese made hand grenades, two detonators, Micromax moblie along with SIM 8794659391 were recovered from them, it stated.

They were said to have disclosed that they are active members of PREPAK (Pro).

Further they disclosed that during the 10th Assembly election they transported 45 hand grenades, two remote control IEDs and two 9mm pistols from Moreh to Imphal and distributed to CorCom cadres operating in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts.

They also revealed that they were involved in a bomb plant at Haokip Veng on January 28 and bomb blast at the Gate of MLA Joykishan, the statement added.

On April 13, Imphal East commandos arrested one PLA cadre identified as Leishangthem Yaiskul alias Ibochou (52) son of (L) L Yaima of Khurai Sajor Leikai, Tinsid Road from Sajor Leikai.

He revealed that he is working under the command of s/s 2nd Lt Benjamin of Thangmeiband is involved in extortions.

He once surrendered to in 1989, it added.

Meanwhile, a team of the IW commandos arrested one KCP (MC) from Thangal Bazar, near MG Avenue on April 12, according to the district SP statement.

He was identified as Lourembung Abung alias Sunder (29) son of (L) L Mani of Kangchup Chingkhong.

He was said to be assigned to extort money, serve demand letters to businessmen, shopkeepers, etc for party fund.

One demand letter of KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman was seized from his possession, it said.

The same day at around 3.10pm, the commandos arrested one kidnapper identified as Khangembam Ratan (36) son of Kh Melei of Wangoo Naodakhong from a place near Manipur State Museum, Imphal.

He is said to have disclosed that he forcibly took Rs 12,000 from the proprietor cum Manager of Hotel Era, Md Rajauddi, at Paona Bazar.

He also threatened the Manager and snatched the visiting register of Hotel Santosh at Paona Bazar.

Later he kidnapped the waiter of Hotel Fidosh, Md Apik alias Hifjur Rahaman (22) for a ransom amount of Rs 30,000, it stated.

Two mobile handsets, one visiting register of Hotel Santosh and Rs 12,000 were seized from him, it stated.

On April 13 at around 9.45am the Imphal West district police commandos arrested two PREPAK (Pro) cadres from Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai near NRL Petrol pump.

The two cadres have been identified as Thongam Ajitkanta alias Ajit (32) son of (L) Th Mani of Ningthemchakarong and Huirongbam Sanatomba (34) son of H Gouro of Singjamei Mayeng Leikai.

On spot verification, Ajit disclosed that he is working under one SS Ngoubi alias Ngancha of PREPAK (Pro) since three years back and he was assigned to issue threats to various Government offices for percentage as instructed by Iboyaima alias Bobby s/s Captain of PREPAK (Pro), elder brother of Sanatomba, the statement said.

Sanatomba disclosed that he was assigned to transport extorted money from place to place and also to provide shelter to PREPAK (Pro) cadres.

Three mobile phone handsets and Rs 5000 were seized from their possession, the statement added.

Meanwhile, troops of 42 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector apprehended a KYKL cadre on April 12 from Tuisimi of Chandel district.

The apprehendee identified as Mayanglambam Manglam Meitei (57) s/o (L) Manichand Meitei of Kakching Wairi Kangoi Maning Pareng has been handed over to Kakching police station with one Chinese hand grenade recovered from the apprehendee.

In yet another incident, troops of 28 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector apprehended one Firoz Khan s/o (L) Majeed Khan of Lilong Turel Ahanbi from the same locality, from whom one unlicensed 12 Bore Rifle with two live rounds have also been recovered.

the apprehendee alongwith recoveries has been handed over to Lilong Police station.

On the otherhand, five Myanmar nationals have been rounded up by troops of 24 AR of 26 Sector on April 13 from Tengnoupal area of Chandel district for not possessing valid document.

The five identified as Ngamlen (19) s/o Paoset, Lamkhanmang (32) s/o Paoset, Douginsei (23) s/o Paoset, Mengkhanthang (29) s/o Lunkhopao and Nengjalem, all residents of Tamu in Myanmar have been handed over to Tengnoupal police station, the PRO release added.

At the same time, 6/8 Gorkha Rifles along with 5/9 Gorkha Rifles and Bishnupur police commandos apprehended one UPPK cadre identified as No 12424, self styled Sgt Maj Salam Somokanta Singh (30) s/o Kulabidhu Singh, of Moirang Konjengbam Leikai from Thinnungai area in Bishnupur district.

The individual was later handed over to Bishnupur police station.

On a tip-off regarding presence of an arms dealer, 46 Assam Rifles apprehended an individual namely Ginzalian alias Lanpou (29) s/o Chinzakop, of Veng, Churachandpur district from Veng and recovered 26 live rounds of AK rifles.

The individual was handed over to PS Imphal West, said a press release issued by PIB (DW) .
