Expulsion evokes public uproar

Expulsion of a candidate from the ongoing High School Leaving certificate Exam by a flying squad of BSEM evoked violent public uproar at Lilong which resulted in injuries to 10 students, a teacher and vandalisation of a number of vehicles.
However, the flying squad was saved by 40th Assam Rifles.
The incident happened at Lilong Higher Secondary Madrassa (Lilong Centre-B) when Mathematics exam was going at around 11 am today, the last day of the ongoing HSLC Exam.
Students from 13 schools were giving the exam at Lilong Centre-B together.
Two flying squads of BSEM numbering 10 came to the exam centre in a Maruti van and an Alto car.
As they monitored the exam, they seized a large note from a girl candidate seated in room no 16 of the centre.
Moments later, she was expelled from the exam.
The girl went out of the room and collapsed in the verandah.
This evoked violent uproar.
The agitated local people vandalised the Maruti van in which one of the flying squads came.
However, the Alto car was driven away before it could be targeted.
In addition another Maruti car driven by the exam invigilator and one Chevrolet Beat car belonging to the Exam Centre OC were also damaged.
The mob further vandalised some other two-wheelers and some properties of the school.
Moreover, 10 students and teacher were injured when the mob pelted stones at the exam centre.
However, the flying squads were saved by 40 Assam Rifles.
A team of 40th Assam Rifles posted at Lilong drove in a bullet-proof vehicle and evacuated the flying squads, informed a source.
In order to control the uproar, police fired several rounds of tear gas shells as well as live rounds in the air.
