LS polls: Indira to contest as independent candidate

Former Chairperson of BJP Industry Cell, NE Region, Oinam Indira is all prepared to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls as an independent candidate from Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
The crucial decision to field Indira as an independent candidate for the 16th Lok Sabha polls came after her supporters and well wishers deliberated on her candidature during repeated meetings.
Indira recently alienated herself from the State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after the party brass denied her ticket for the ensuing polls.
Her supporters pledged if situation demands they would even donate Rs 1 each for her election expenditure and shouted slogan "We should support women candidates" .
Her candidature was announced during a public meeting at Lamyanba Shanglen in Palace Compound here on Friday.
Hundreds of her supporters were present at the gathering.
Taking into account the need of women representatives in the Parliament to sort out the menace of misjudge of women in politics, the key decision was taken to put up Indira as an independent candidate, they said.

Retired Lt Col RK Rajendra, who was also present at the meeting, said although BJP is an influential party, all the leaders of Manipur BJP are unfit.
"We don't see maturity in the leadership of the State BJP," he accused.
"I've also decided to support Indira thinking she is young and energetic," Ranjan said.
Making comments on her candidature, Indira boasted of having her own supporters in the 32 Constituencies in the valley just like the major parties do.
The country has witnessed committing crimes against women because of lack of women leaders, Indira said and further expressed unhappiness over inability to elect a single woman from the State to represent the Indian Parliament till now.
She alleged that Irom Chanu Sharmila who is on fast-unto-death for more than 13 years have been neglected by the political principles in the State.
Indira further promised that she would make efforts to set up a separate political platform exclusively for women if elected from the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency which go to poll on April 19 for the lone seat.
She also assured poverty will be eradicated from the State under a right policy, and that a new change will be brought to solve the problem of frequent bandh and blockades.
Indira also sought cooperation from the people, particularly women in both the Inner and Outer Parliamentary Constituencies in her electoral fight to get the seat.
