Imphal, July 06 2019:
Two ponds dug by Senapati district administration at Chakha village have been selected by the Ministry of Rural Development for harvesting rain water.
Notably, the two ponds are among 150 works implemented under MGNREGS and selected by the ministry from across the country for harvesting rain water.
A Go to Village camp was held at Chakha village last year and the local villagers highlighted the growing need for a reliable source of water at the village.
Responding to the villagers' demand, two ponds were dug at the village under the aegis of the district administration.
As ponds dug in elevated grounds do not retain water for long, silpaulins were laid at the bottoms of the two ponds dug at Chakha village.
Paomata water reservoir of Senapati district, Machi community pond of Tengnoupal district, Nachou community pond of Bishnupur district and Maklang community pond of Imphal West district are also included among the 150 works selected from across the country for harvesting rain water.
All these works were implemented under MGNREGS.
An expert from the Centre would make a direct assessment of all the activities undertaken in the State for harvesting rain water and selected works would be rewarded, informed a source.
