Students' Wing decries anti-national tag

Reacting to Chief Minister O Ibobi's reported statement on Inner Line Permit System issue, Students' Wing of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System has said that it is unfortunate that the Chief Minister has termed the movement an anti-national.
In a press conference held at Students Union of Kangleipak (SUK), Kwakei-thel, Students' Wing Convenor Moirangthem Angangcha said, the agitators understand that India and Manipur have federal relation.
However, the demand is implementation of Inner Line Permit System which enables the people of the State to enjoy Article 19 Clause 5 of the Constitution which provides the right to protect its own culture.
Saying that ILP campaigners are not against coming of non-locals in the State, Angangcha said that non-locals can come to the State after the implementation of ILP in the State.
During a campaign undergone between June 1 and 5, 42 non-locals who could not provide any identification paper were sent off, he said and added that no non-local was harassed or manhandled during the campaign.
Angangcha said, an announced earlier, movement of non-locals would be restricted at various localities of the State from June 6 to 10. Saying that the Students' Wing carried out awareness campaigns on ILP implementation in educational institutes, the Convenor said that nothing was discussed on admission of non-locals during such campaigns.
The objective of the campaigns in educational institutes was to make aware of the need of ILP to students and teachers.
The Students' Wing took permission from the institute authority to hold an awareness session, he said and added that the awareness session is usually summed up in one period.
Saying that the Students' Wing would continue such sessions in future as well, Angangcha added that similar sessions were held at Don Bosco, Langjing, Nirmalabas, Temple of Learning, Sishu Nistha Niketan, Brighter Aca-demy, Khumbong, Fancier Abhiram Higher Secondary School, Thoubal and Thinu-ngei Phubala High School.
