Political workers and supporters of Naga Peoples' Front (NPF) of Tamei A/C organised a prayer and thanksgiving programme for the newly elected president of NPF Manipur State Unit, Awangbow Newmai at his residence at Kanglatongbi.
All the four NPF MLAs and newly nominated office bearers of NPF State level and divisional units of Ukhrul, Senapati, Tamenglong, Chandel, Sadar Hills and Churachandpur were present at the function, said a statement.
The newly nominated office bearers of Women Wing, Youth Wing and Farmers' Wing of the party were administered oath by Awangbow Newmai, the statement said and added that divisional and AC level office bearers were administered oath by MLAs L Dikho and ST Victor Nunghlung.
In his speech, MLA Dr V Alexander Pao said that the party stands for peace in the State.
He added that peace would prevail only when Naga political problem is solved.
Speaking at the occasion, MLA Samuel Risom expressed concern amd alleged that the State Govt has been neglecting tribal people by not providing their due share.
MLA L Dikho said that the party has elected a new president who is committed to carry forward the party towards its goal.
Saying that the Constitutional provision under Article 371(C) has been thoroughly distorted, MLA Victor Nunghlung stressed on the need to strengthen NPF as it is the only party which understands the needs of the people and is committed to work for the people.
In his speech, party advisor Morung Makunga mentioned about the importance of honesty and sincerity.
Speaking at the occasion, Awangbow Newmai expressed gratitude to his party men of all ranks and file for giving him the opportunity to lead the party and assured that he would never betray the principles and the Constitution of the party.
He appealed to the party workers to extend cooperation and uphold NPF's motto, 'Peace for progress'.
He said that the party stands for those who could not stand up and speak out for their rights.
The President further said that NPF stands for peaceful solution of the ongoing Indo-Naga peace process.
The NPF is not against any political party or community.
There cannot be progress unless there is peace in the State, he added.
