Puya Mei Thaba observation on Jan 13

The International Observation Committee on 'Puya Mei Thaba', ICOP will observe the 286th 'Puya Mei Thaba' memorial event on January 13 (the 23rd day of Manipuri lunar month Wakching) at THAU ground, Imphal.
This was announced at the wall poster release function of the event held at THAU ground today.
ICOP chairman and former Minister RV Mingthing, committee vice-president M Noudalenkhomba, committee convenor and Manipur State Shumang Leela Council general secretary S Hemanta, MEEKAL president Sagolsemcha Yaikhomba, MEELAL vice-president and ICOP convenor M Naokhomba, All Manipur Private Schools Welfare Organisation general secretary and ICOP convenor Joy Khumancha, Pandam Executive Editor and ICOP convenor N Tomba were present at the function.
A committee spokesperson said that a mass procession to Kangla fort would be taken out on the day.
Hill and valley people would offer floral tributes at the statues of the scholars of the erstwhile royal Court of Manipur, he added.
The objective of observing the day is to commemorate the fateful day when the ancient scriptures of Manipur were burnt down.
The event also aims at maintaining integrity between hills and valley people, the spokesperson said.
This year's Maichou Ningsing Award and Chingmi Tammi Nungsi Lipun Award would be presented to Dr Ngohar Sai Luithui and family of late Akoijam Nodiachand at the observance.
Later in the afternoon, Manipur State Shumang Leela Council would present a Shumang Leela entitled Kangleipak ta 1709 (Puya Mei Thaba) at THAU ground, he added.
Students of all schools and colleges across the State would wear black badge from January 10 to 12 to protest burning down of Puya (ancient chronicles) as a Black Day.
The Black Day observation would commence from Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur.
The 286th Puya Mei Thaba observation woud also be held in Bangladesh, Canada, Taiwan and UK.
The observation event would be held under the aegis of MNF, AMRPSWA, MSSLC, MEELAL, UKAL and MEEKAL.
