Two days after Nagaland Governor PB Acharya blasted state politicians for the rampant corruption in the state, a surprise raid was conducted in a cabinet minister's house here this morning by state vigilance and anti-corruption sleuths.
According to sources, the state vigilance sleuths swooped down Agriculture Minister Dr Benjongliba Aier's both residences here at about 5 AM and conducted raids which continued till 11 AM.
The sleuths reportedly seized some documents, a laptop and a computer from the raids.
It said the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Police Station had registered a "suo moto" criminal case based on the media reports against the minister, former director horticulture and mission director, horticulture technology mission.
The case was registered after scrutiny of documents made available which points to the alleged involvement in the misappropriation and mis-utilization of funds under the Horticulture Technology Mission pertaining to the period 2008 2009 to 2012 13 .
When contacted a senior minister who did not want to be named, he said the state chief minister TR Zeliang was not taken into confidence before the raids that took place in one of his cabinet ministers' residences today.
There is a strong suspicion that the directives for the raids came from Delhi's corridor.
Now no ministers would feel secure under Zeliang government, the minister said and further expressed his apprehension that anybody could be raided any time.
Another sources informed NEPS that the CBI might conduct series of probes into the state lotteries and the Oil Exploration issues in Nagaland by next month, that is, January 2015 .
