Imphal, December 05 2014 :
Labourers working in organised and unorganised sectors today took out a protest rally here in denunciation of the alleged anti-labour policy of the NDA Government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The rally organised by the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Manipur was flagged off from Irabot Bhavan and it went past several major roads of the capital city before winding up at THAU Ground, Thangmeiband where a public meeting was held.
The protesters carried along placards which denounced the anti-labour policy in addition to raising many slogans.
Briefing media persons about the protest rally, CPI State unit secretary Dr M Nara said that the rally was organised in condemnation of the BJP Government's anti-labour policy which allegedly promotes the interest of wealthy corporate houses at the cost of poor labourers.
He further alleged that the incumbent Government has been scheming to abrogate NREGS which guarantees at least 100 days job in a year to the country's rural poor.
The protest rally was a part of the country-wide agitation spearheaded by 11 Central trade unions/organisations.
Since the BJP-led NDA Government came to power, it has been scheming to enact a number of anti-labour laws.
In the meantime, prices of all essential commodities have been rising continuously, Dr Nara said.
Once the NDA Government's labour reforms come into effect, a large number of part-time, casual and contract labourers would be laid off which would only multiply the number of unemployed persons in the State.
This is gross violation of human rights entitled to the poor labourers/employees, Dr Nara asserted.
