Imphal, June 03 2014:
Alleged Govt's apathy to educational institutions under Khengjoi subdivision of Chandel district coupled with dereliction of teachers appointed at schools in the subdivision have led to the collapse of several school buildings and reduced others are in a hapless state.
The Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) Chandel and KSO Khengjoy Block conducted an inspection tour to various schools in Khengjoy Subdivision today.
Most of the schools have no class room partitions where all the students are taught inside a single class room.
At some schools, students are overcrowded while the teachers are found absent for long time at other schools.
At P Chejang Primary School under Khengjoy TD Block, there are around 70 students.
However, the school has a small building that could accommodate only few 30 students.
A local (engaged) teacher is looking after the school and the students alone.
Joupi Govt Aided Primary School is in a pathetic state.
A lone teacher is manning the school that has no proper class rooms.
Much to the bafflement of the inspecting KSO team and the media persons, no building was found when the team went to inspect Old Samtal Lower Primary School at Old Samtal.
Later it was learnt from the locals that a building constructed by the Assam Rifles has been used as class room since the school building is in a state of decaying.
Ironically, it was learnt that the two teachers appointed to the school have never turned up to their place of posting, keeping aside attending class, since their appointment.
KSO Khengjoy Block president, Ngamsei Touthang said that there are 47 Govt schools in Khengjoy subdivision including 23 schools under the ADC.
There are 180 teachers for the 47 schools.
Some of the teachers have never turned up to their respective place of postings.
Quoting its previous inspection report, the KSO president said there are 1300 students enrolled in the schools.
Questioning where the teachers have been all this while, Ngamsei urged the authority concerned to take fitting action against the derelict teachers or the Govt should give regular appointment to all engaged local teachers.
He further lamented that the Govt has never bothered to inspect the condition of the schools.
As such, the schools in the subdivision are in pathetic condition.
