Imphal, June 03 2014:
With the State Government stepping up measures to start implementing National Food Security Act, the Government has directed district authorities to submit priority lists by June 7 .
Talking to The Sangai Express, CAF&PD Minister M Okendro said that the Act has been already implemented in 11 States.
As the Act should be implemented across the country by July 5, the Government has been working overtime and all the DCs have been directed to furnish priority household lists by June 7 .
Once the Act is implemented, the existing categories of BPL and APL would disappear.
There would be only priority household lists and AAY beneficiaries.
Although the main responsibility of implementing NFSA lies with the Centre, the State Government has certain responsibilities, Okendro said in response to a query.
The State Government should provide the storehouse for storing food grains which would be distributed to beneficiaries at subsidised rate.
Meanwhile a meeting on implementation of the Act was held today and it was presided by CAF&PD Minister M Okendro.
Commissioner, Director and DSOs of the department attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Okendro instructed the DSOs about the requirement for opening one Fair Price Shop for every 200/300 beneficiaries.
It is said that the existing 4,06,593 beneficiaries of Targeted Public Distribution System would rise to 4,69,930 once the Act is implemented in the State.
