He said that challans are issued against those driving without helmet by the officers whose rank is not below ASI.
Lalboi said that these drives are not carried out at some specific places but at different pockets of the capital city randomly.
Regarding ever increasing traffic congestion Lalboi said that public's co-operation and good sense of driving and parking are necessary to curb this problem.
Stating that most of the drivers in Imphal do not follow basic traffic rules, Lalboi said that people tend to park their vehicles at no parking zones although sign boards are put up.
He said that people need to have good traffic sense to reduce traffic congestion.
Another major problem is parking vehicles on both sides of the road at busy areas although it is not allowed, he said.
He said that traffic police would put up new sign boards and hoardings to impart awareness on traffic rules at different areas.
Two days back, this reporter witnessed the driver of a car having flag post being challaned by the traffic police for parking at a no parking zone in front of Gambhir Singh Shopping Arcade.
The VIP who owns the car was not there in the vehicle when the driver was challaned.
