Imphal, September 23 2016:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the Editors of the book, 'Claims and Refutations: Compilation on Inner Line Permit System' to make a detailed clarification on their remarks on ST demand by October 3 .
Speaking to reporters at their Keishampat office, DESAM president Moirangthem Angamba said that Homen Thangjam, Sukhdev Sharma Hanjabam stated on page number 225 of their book that 'Demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the Meitei is spearheaded by the Indian intelligence and military who have taken Manipuri compradors such as retired army personnel into their folds' .
This remark is misleading and it has created confusion in the minds of the public at a time when people are campaigning for inclusion of Meeteis/Meiteis in the ST list under Article 342 (1) .
As the three Editors had dence, they might be having concrete evidence to support their claim, he said.
As such, they must clarify on the issue to clear people's doubts by October 3, Angamba said.
Centre for Manipur Studies of Manipur University, which is the publisher of the book, must also act in a responsible manner on the issue, he added.
Angamba said that DESAM in association with the individuals who wish to protect Meetei/Meitei community, Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) and the people of Manipur would launch agitation against the Editors if they fail to make a detailed clarification and come up with the evidence to support their claim within the given time.
