Senapati, September 23 2016:
Irom Chanu Sharmila visited Senapati district HQs and interacted with students, women leaders and civil society leaders at Hope Centre.
MANEDA, Monday Market today.
While appreciating MANEDA for its laudable works and projects initiated for the development of the district Sharmila also interacted with differently abled children who are being provided special care, education and health services by MANEDA.
Sharmila spoke about her movement and appealed to the people to work collectively to repeal AFSPA.
During the interaction, she said, "There is no democracy in Manipur and there is a serious need to bring positive changes," .
Commenting on being recognised globally for her crusade against AFSPA, Sharmila noted that the historic transformation from a global icon of protest and the most recognizable face of resistance in the conflict-ridden State into a political leader is a biased identification by certain agencies.
She said, "I am a human being.
Why do those agencies and certain elements have to define me with their own version ? As a human being, I can feel everything.
Why are they trying to isolate me ? .
"People say politics is dirty, so is society," Sharmila said and added that people have negative feelings towards her decision to join politics.
These people do not want to see better changes.
They just want to see me as a symbol of resistance", she said.
