Ukhrul, September 23 2016:
Following incessant rain forthe last many days in the district, a landslide at Chotjei area near the western gate has disconnected many western villages from the district headquarters, stated Ngainga village development council chairman Joywill.
A team of Ngainga VDC members, including the village youth and women organization leaders, led by local councillor Kapangpam Zimik inspected the spot to take the stock of the landslide today.
The inter-village road serving as the shortest route for many western villages of Ukhrul, including Ngainga, Kachai, Taro, Maichon, Somdal,Champhung, Leisan etc has been cut off from the district headquarters due to the landslide at Chotjei, Ngainga village.
Due to the landslide the villagers have been enduring immense hardship in daily transportation, emergency services and are facing acute shortage of essential commodities.
The landslide is just 9 kms from Ukhrul town spanning an area of about 60 metres.
According to Ngainga VDC chairman Joywill, the villagers have put in their best effort to clear the debris to reconnect the road.
However without engaging heavy machineries it is beyond the capacity of the villagers to clear the huge deposition of mud, rock, soil and fallen trees.
They further appealed to the authority concerned to immediately extend help to clear the debris and restore movement of the people.
