Awareness programme on COVID-19 held at Ukhrul, Bishnupur

Ukhrul, March 15 2020:
A one-day awareness programme on COVID-19 was held today at Shangshak village, Ukhrul.
Speaking as the resource person of the programme, Dr Pamreila Grace DMO, Ukhrul enlightened the villagers about the outbreak of respiratory disease caused by a novel coronavirus.
Covid-19 was first detected in Wuhan city of China last year and dwelling on the fast spreading of the virus across the globe, WHO declared COVID-19 as pandemic disease, Dr Pamreila added.
Saying that coronavirus can be transmitted through respiratory droplets and human contact, Dr Grace asserted that regular handwashing with soap is one of the most effective means to prevent the disease.
She also demonstrated the systematic steps of handwashing to ward out the virus.
As the novel coronavirus can be transmitted through eyes, nose and mouth, one should avoid frequent touching/rubbing these parts with bare hands, she maintained and also urged them to avoid handshake with stranger persons until the disease is contained.
"If any person from your villages is suspected to have COVID-19, keep them in isolation for observation and report immediately to the nearest hospital for test," she added.
Later, at an interaction session held as part of the programme, she mentioned the importance of social responsibility and roles of community participation in fighting the disease.

Kashungnao Robin FPO i/c Field Outreach Bureau, Senapati Unit said that the camp was conducted to prevent the disease from spreading into the State.
The programme organised by Field Outreach Bureau, Senapati Unit under the sponsorship of Bureau of Outreach & Communication Ministry of Information & Broadcasting was also attended by the chief of Shangshak Khullen, Ngazeklei A' Shishak as chief guest and SI Zianthaolung Kamei as a guest of honour.
Meanwhile, a two-day awareness programme on COVID-19 being organised by Field Outreach Bureau Imphal began today at Utlou Awang Community Hall, Bishnupur district.
Arranged as part of Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme, the inaugural ceremony was attended by Utlou Gram Panchayat Ward no 2 Member, Keisham Premjit Singh; Executive Engineer, Department of Agriculture Keisham Ibochou Singh; District Surveillance Officer Bishnupur, Dr Laishram Raichandra Singh and Head of Office FOB Imphal, H Deepakumar Sharma as the presidium members.
Speaking at the function, District Surveillance Officer Bishnupur, Dr Laishram Raichandra Singh said that keeping a safe distance from others, at least 3 feet, can be useful in reducing the risk of COVID-19 infection.
Stating that Covid-19 testing centre for Manipur have been opened at JNIMS and RIMS, he continued that a District Surveillance Committee and a rapid response team have also been formed for Bishnupur district.
