All the necessary land surveys, topography survey, preparation of DPR and feasibility study for the solar power plant, which is the largest of its kind in the North East region, have been completed successfully and the only things left now are some processes of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) contract and technical designs etc.
Stating that Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Power Minister Th Biswajit Singh contributed immensely to the project, he expressed desire for the leaders and the authorities concerned to ensure that the pending processes are expedited.
If so, then the power plant can be commissioned by December this year, Premjeet Sharma added.
The Chairman explained that an area measuring around 234 acres was allocated for the solar power plant at Jarolpokpi which is designed to last 25 years.
He informed that initial surveys were conducted at Karong, under Senapati district, for construction of the solar power plant but issues concerning technical feasibility resulted in shifting the plant to Jarolpokpi.
Pointing out that the State Government is going to purchase the power generated from the plant, Premjeet Sharma said that if the project is successful, then the power situation of Manipur will be improved significantly.
Moreover, the solar power plant will also provide employment opportunities for 30-40 people from among those settled in the surrounding areas, he asserted.
Sungevity Enterprises Pvt Ltd is planning a similar venture in Mizoram.
On the other hand, the company has also taken up such projects in other countries like Vietnam and Nigeria, Premjeet Sharma concluded.
