Imphal, March 15 2020:
The Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) has appealed to titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba to withdraw his decision to go to the Rajya Sabha as an MP.
Speaking to media persons at their Wahengbam Leikai office this afternoon, PPCM advisor Y Leirik Leima appealed to the titular king to review his decision of serving the people in the capacity of a Rajya Sabha Member for a term of just six years.
She said that the titular king would regret his decision in future if he does not review it now.
Saying that the titular king is a living symbol of the history of Manipur, Leirik Leima urged Leishemba Sanajaoba to retract his step and save the history and identity of Manipur.
She said that she could not sleep the last three/four nights thinking about how the titular king arrived at the decision of going to the Rajya Sabha.
The preceding State Government proposed the titular king to vacate his palace in exchange for a nearby compound but the king turned down the proposal, recounted the PPCM advisor.
Saying that he would not see any recurrence of the remorse felt by the people of Manipur over signing the Manipur Merger Agreement by his grandfather Maharaja Bodhchandra at Shillong in 1949, Leishemba Sanajaoba took a firm decision to protect the royal palace, Leirik Leima recalled.
32 different organisations came in support of the titular king's decision and they took up the onus of protecting the royal palace, she continued.
L Memchoubi, PPCM's another advisor, remarked that the titular king's decision is very painful.
She went on to ask as to why Leishemba Sanajaoba did not consult any CSOs who have been working together with him before taking the decision of joining the Indian Parliament.
She too appealed the titular king to retract his step.
