Dy CM advocates discipline

Democratic Students' Alliance, Manipur (DESAM) celebrated its 14th foundation day at GP Women's College today.
The celebration was graced by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam as chief guest; DESAM president Moirang-them Angamba Meitei; Centre for Myanmar Studies, MU, Director Professor W Nabak-umar; GP Women's College Principal Y Chandrasakhi; retired Lecturer T Gulamjat; KSO, GHQ, president Paotin-thang Lupheng; Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong former vice-president Kashung Tennyson and All Zeliang-rong Students' Union (AMN), public relation secretary Katureiyang Pamei as president and guests of honour respectively.
Stressing on the importance of discipline in social life, Deputy CM Gaikhangam said a society without discipline is hopeless.
He urged DESAM to understand its role as a students' body in promoting the welfare of students community and education at large.
He also appealed to the students community to focus on their academic career.
Some people have been deliberately misinterpreting the history of the State.
History are the facts of the past, it should not be misinterpreted.
The Deputy CM further advised against reinventing and thereby distorting, the 2000 year old history of the State.
He further urged participation of the people in shaping and developing the students community.
DESAM president Moi-rangthem Angamba Meitei said the lack of trust and understanding amongst the people and backwardness of the land can be attributed to the faulty educational system practised in the State.
He pointed out the need to frame a new educational system to suit the growing needs of a student.
The Deputy Chief Minister later handed over the Chingu Maichou Khongnangthaba Award to Anand Singh Higher secondary School Lecturer Irom Usharani Devi, Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School Lecturer Dr AK.

A blood donation camp was also held as part of the celebration.
