Tribal bodies hail Lawmkunga, Govt

Extending heartiest congratulations to PC Lawmkunga on his appoint-ment as the Chief Secretary of the State, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (Mizo students' association), Headquarters Manipur, All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) ,Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA), Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), All India Tribal Students' Association, Delhi (AITSA), Paite Tribe Council (PTC), Zomi Students' Federation (ZSF), Committee on Protection of Tribal Areas, Manipur (COPTAM), Indige-nous Democratic Front (IDF), and All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU) have lauded the SPF Government for designating PC Lawmkunga, IAS to the top bureaucratic post of the State.
The appointment of PC Lawmkunga as the Chief Secretary manifests CM O Ibobi Singh and his team's undisputed governance in the larger interest of the State, said the MZP Manipur in a statement.
Meanwhile, conveying its appreciation to CM O Ibobi and his ministerial colleagues for giving priority to merit, competence, diligence and seniority rather than political affinity, a statement issued by ATSUM president Emboi Serto said the appointment of Lawmkunga to such a high profile and responsible post clearly indicated that the SPF Govt under O Ibobi no longer follows the trend and culture practised all over India in the name of political appointment.
The ATSUM president also expressed hope that the bureaucratic duty of serving the people rather than political masters would be the top priority of PC Lawmkunga as he occupies the top post.
Congratulating the new Chief Secretary, Education secretary of ATSUM Lovejoy hoped that the appointment of Lawmkunga as the CS would rekindle better relations between the hills and the valley in many ways.
He also said ATSUM would continue to strive for the welfare of the tribal people while also adding that it would consistently support the cause of the public and ensure better and cordial relation with the State Government.
It is a rare and welcoming move of the State Government to finally bestow a tribal officer the post of Chief Secretary, the SDSA said while wishing the new Chief Secretary all success.
Extending sincere congratulation to the new Governor, Dr Ashwini Kumar and new CS, PC Lawmkunga, the general secretary of KIM, Khaimang Chongloi said, "The appointment of PC Lawnkunga as the new Chief Secretary of the State without any partiality shows delivery of justice and transparency of the O Ibobi Singh led SPF Government" .
'It is indeed a feat to a tribal officer to occupy such coveted post.
We are really proud of you,' the ZSF said.
It has been almost 20 years now that a tribal was the chief secretary of Manipur in H Jelshyam.
PC Lawmkunga has assumed office of the chief secretary today succeeding DS Poonia.
PC Lawmkunga is a 1979 Manipur-Tripura Indian Administrative Service cadre.
He was born on October 1, 1955 in Mualthuam village, Mizo-ram.
He first served in the State as SDO of Kangpokpi.
